Groot Seminarie Congrescentrum Mechelen

Our heritage

Your meeting, event, lunch, dinner or reception in a historic setting… this is possible in the former Major Seminary of Mechelen.

Today, people know our conference centre as a unique location for meetings, lunches, dinners, receptions and a number of other events. Unique, because our history goes back to the end of the 16th century, when the foundations were laid for what would eventually become the Major Seminary, Mechelen. Thousands of priests were educated and sent out into the world from here.

After the closure of the seminary school, the site was transformed into a modern space for conferences and meetings. What were originally classrooms became meeting spaces, while the cafeteria for the seminarians became a restaurant.

The eight modern guest rooms and twenty-four student rooms retain memories of the countless seminarians who stayed here in the past.

In this exceptional mix of the past and today, our visitors remain a central focus.

Just like the seminarians before them, we want our visitors to discover a home away from home where they are comfortable staying, with room for study, reflection, learning and education, plus of course, meetings.
